Abu Dhabi, January, 28, 2014 Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and in the presence of Sheikh Hamid Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Chairman of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court the Petroleum Institute (PI) celebrated its 8th Annual Commencement in the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi in January 27, 2014.
The commencement ceremony was attended by a number of Chief Executive Officers, General Managers and senior executives in ADNOC and its Group of Companies a number of dignitaries, as well as the graduates' family and friends. The event witnessed the graduation of 201 male and female engineers of which 164 were undergraduate students and 37 were graduate students, with over 40% of the graduates being female students.
H.E Abdulla Nasser Al Suwaidi, Director General of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) stressed a speech he gave on this occasion in line with the directives with the our wise leadership of H.H Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan President of UAE and H.H General Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces ADNOC pays due concern to education and training to build the knowledge based economy.
He stressed ADNOC’s commitment to exert more efforts to develop its educational institutions and update its training programs to cope with the latest development reaffirming ADNOC’s unlimited support to the PI in recognition of its great role in providing the qualified engineers from all specializations to support the oil and gas sector. The increasing number of graduates from the PI represents valuable assets to the Emiritiztaion efforts of the oil and gas sector and an effective contribution in preparation and qualification of the UAE nationals.
He expressed congratulation to the graduates of the PI’s postgraduates and undergraduates studies calling upon them to continue the march of success and achievement each from his positions of work for the building and development of UAE. He went on to say that ADNOC will continue its support to the PI graduates by offering employment opportunities with ADNOC Group of Companies and providing training programs to upgrade their skills and promote their capabilities in support of ADNOC Economic Vision 2030 which aims at creation of knowledge based economy.
He hailed the female graduates of the PI from the postgraduates and graduates programs praising the role and contribution of the UAE women in the development of the oil and gas sector. The number of the UAE female employees in ADNOC and its Group of Companies has reached 3500 employees working in all fields of the oil and gas sector, he said affirming that ADNOC will avail all opportunities for development before the UAE woman in confirmation of the deep rooted belief of our wise leadership in the abilities and potentialities of the UAE women.
On his part Dr. Ismail Tag the PI Acting President and Provost said that this graduation comes as fruitful result of the unlimited support of the UAE wise leadership to the education hailing the support which ADNOC and its Group of Companies extends to the PI. He affirmed the PI commitment to continue it mission as a pioneering model and a world class educational and research institution dedicated to serve the national development and the oil and gas sector in UAE particularly in Abu Dhabi.
He expressed congratulation for the PI graduates and their families praising the skills and capabilities of the graduates and the excellent and high level educational programs which the PI offers to its students. He called on all graduates to work hardly to apply the knowledge and knowhow which they have acquired from the class and research Centers in efforts aiming at achieving development and welfare for the UAE.
The PI strategy concentrates on directing the scientific research to serve the national development and the oil and gas sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
The new achievement of the PI comes with a series of successes which come as a result of years of careful work in developing and improving of the educational process and research works It also represents part of the continuous initiative of the PI to provide educational and research environment in accordance with international standards. Lead the higher education and built a knowledge-based community.
The new coherent comprises a total of 201 graduates in the PI various specializations as follow: Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering 44 graduates, Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering 30 graduates, Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering 28 graduates, Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Geosciences 11 graduates , Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering 51 graduates ,Master of Science in Chemical Engineering 5 graduates, Master of Science in Electrical Engineering 4 graduates, Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering 14 graduates, Master of Science in Petroleum Engineering 10 graduates, Master of Science in Petroleum Geosciences 2 graduates and Master of Science in HSE2 graduates.
It is to be recalled that the PI has celebrated in 2011 the graduation of its first female students who have all joined their colleague in the oil and gas sector.
Inspired by the far sighted vision of the Late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan the PI has a unique female program specially designated for female students studying at the PI Known as Women In Scientific and Engineering Studies “WISE” . The program aims at encouraging the UAE women to occupy its position in the society and to assume the highest job position according to its qualification and capabilities.
The WISE program plays effective role in supporting the UAE female students of the PI solving all the academic difficulties they are facing and providing conducive environment for creativity and equal participation and opportunities in the university studies. The number of UAE nationals both male and females who members of the PI teaching staff has now reached more than 20 PhD holders.
In line with the governmental policies aiming at investment in the human resources development through preparation, qualification and employment of UAE nationals for the realization of sustainable development on the long run ADNOC has established a number of educational institution and launched a number of training programs to prepare and qualify the UAE national to assume their role in leading the oil and gas sector.
The educational institutions and training programs sponsored by ADNOC such as the PI, the Glenelg School of Abu Dhabi, ADNOC Technical Institute, Achievers Oasis and ADNOC Scholarship Program are living example of the successful educational initiatives of ADNOC. These successful example are stemming from a comprehensive vision which considers education as the most important pillar for the realization of the socioeconomic devolvement The PI currently offers Bachelor of Science & Engineering, Master of Science and Master of Engineering degrees in five disciplines with plans to offer additional engineering and applied science degrees in the future.
The PI meets the best international standards required for accreditation of the engineering and applied sciences programs. All engineering and applied sciences programs of the Petroleum Institute (PI), one of the educational institutions sponsored by Abu National Oil Company (ADNOC), have been granted accreditation by the American Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
