Offshore Electrification

The supply of clean grid power will reduce the carbon footprint of our offshore upstream operations by up to 50%.

In 2022, we announced a $3.8 billion, first-of-its-kind, sub-sea transmission network in the MENA region to connect ADNOC’s offshore operations to TAQA’s clean onshore power network, unlocking cost-savings and environmental benefits. This project will reduce ADNOC’s offshore carbon footprint by up to 50%, and further support the UAE ‘Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative’.

World-first gas project aimed to operate with net zero emissions

Hail & Ghasha Project

The pioneering project will play a vital role in meeting the UAE’s goal of gas self-sufficiency and rising demand exports.

The Hail and Ghasha development design combines innovative decarbonization technologies into one integrated solution. The project will capture 1.5 million tonnes per year (mtpa) of CO2, while low-carbon hydrogen is produced that can replace fuel gas and further reduce emissions. The project will also leverage clean power from nuclear and renewable sources from the grid.

Offshore Seismic

ADNOC is exploring further and deeper with the help of cutting-edge technologies to find new pockets of oil and gas reserves within its shores.

We are working with China’s National Petroleum Corporation which will use its state-of-the-art 3D seismic surveys to scan for hydrocarbon reserves across an area of 53,000 square kilometers, roughly the size of the state of New Yok – and at depths of around 25,000 feet, around nine times the height of Burj Khalifa.

Onshore Seismic

The UAE and China are strategic partners in the pursuit of energy security: Abu Dhabi is home to some of the world’s largest hydrocarbon reserves, while China is one of the world’s biggest oil and gas exporters.

In July 2018, ADNOC awarded an AED5.88 billion (US$1.6 billion) contract to CNPC to explore 30,000 sq km off the shores of the UAE and 23,000 sq km in its desert areas for crude oil and natural gas reserves, using its revolutionary 3D seismic technology.
